Barbell Strategy

An investment framework popularized by Nassim Nicholas Taleb, advocating the elimination of medium-risk assets in favor of an extreme allocation between ultra-safe and highly aggressive investments.

  • Ultra-Conservative End (80%–90%): Put the vast majority of funds into Treasury bills, cash, and high-dividend defensive stocks to protect capital from extreme crashes.
  • Ultra-Aggressive End (10%–20%): Allocate a small amount to frontier tech, biotech, or call options to capture massive, high-multiplier upside.
  • Middle Ground (0%): Completely skip moderate-risk stocks to avoid the trap of mediocre returns and hidden downside risks.

Capped downside risk (limited strictly to the 10%–20% allocation) paired with theoretically uncapped upside potential. Trimming explosive gains from the aggressive bucket and shifting profits back into the safe bucket to lock in returns.
